PROPOSED NOISE ORDINANCE
Councilman Muench has proposed that the restriction on live music and dancing on South Main be removed from the current ordinance. He includes a limit on decibel levels.
At the public hearing held 3/2/10, all speakers were against the ordinance change citing the some of the following points:
- Noise violations are relatively low priority for the police department.
- Property values and quality of life issues are at stake for our National Historic District and the surrounding neighborhood.
- The problems of North Main should not be allowed on South Main.
- South Main has a surrounding residential population that would be impacted.
- The obvious point of providing live music is to induce patrons to stay longer and drink more.
- Increased drinking activity would change the character of the neighborhood.
- Speakers urged Council, if a change is to be enacted, to end live music at 10pm.
- Councilman Muench withdrew the bill for proposed changes to the ordinance.
